Tessier
Artist Bio
Throughout her life, Karen
has always shown an interest and desire to create
art. In 1988, Karen completed the Media Resources
Program at Capilano College. Following graduation,
she freelanced for various sized production companies.
Over the period of 10 years, Karen worked in the Media
Department at the Coquitlam School District in various
areas, including graphics, video and photography.
Her desire to focus more on art led her to the Emily
Carr Institute in 2001, where she took a drawing course.
Karen subsequently enrolled in the Fine Arts Program
at UBC-Okanagan where she finished her Bachelor of
Fine Arts. |

Description of Work
For Karen, diversity is the fundamental focus. Her art explores
a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, photography,
and pottery. Layers of oil and acrylic give her paintings
depth, transparency and luminosity. She applies metal, fabric,
plaster, string, paper and other materials to build up the
surface to create texture and a multi-dimensional look.
People, landscapes, harmony, still life, and social issues
are just a few examples of the wide range of ideas and concepts
encompassed in her art.
Throughout her life Karen has always
engaged in activities that involved creating and making.
She is just as interested in the process of creating, as
in the final product. Variety is also a key for her she
enjoys working with different mediums, and exploring various
topics. Her different mediums include photography, educational
video production, pottery, sewing funky purses, , and creating
unique art cards.
